6 Common Carpet Cleaning Questions Answered

We spoke to the carpet cleaning experts over at Night Owl Express and they answered the most common questions we hear from homeowners about carpet cleaning. We hope this helps clear some things up for you!

Does carpet cleaning shampoo ruin the carpet?  

Using and referring to the word ‘shampoo’ when talking about carpet cleaning, is a dated term in the industry. Most carpet cleaning companies use a deep steam extraction process with a truck-mounted system. So to answer your question, yes, shampoo can dry out or leave your carpets crusty if not done properly. That means finding a great and reliable carpet cleaner is important! 

How often should I get the carpets cleaned?

It’s highly suggested that carpet should be cleaned at least once a year. However, depending on your lifestyle you may need to get it done two to three times a year. If you have children, pets and lots of shoe wearing foot truck, we recommend the latter. 

Are the chemicals used safe for my family and pets?

How long does a typical carpet cleaning take? 

It doesn’t take as long as you think but it all depends on how much carpet you need cleaned. But to give you an idea, an average whole house carpet cleaning takes two to three hours. 

How much can I expect to pay for a carpet cleaning? 

All companies charge differently and the best thing to do is to call around and gather an idea of what the average is. Avoid the carpet cleaning costs that are too good to be true. But at a minimum you should pay around $85-$100 for a basic cleaning and expect to pay more with each room you add. 

Should I vacuum after a carpet cleaning? 

Vacuuming right after a cleaning is not needed. You can go back to your normal vacuuming schedule but we highly recommend to vacuum at least twice a week to protect your higher traffic areas. Pro tip: Vacuum BEFORE the carpet cleaners arrive.
