In the wake of everything going on, you are probably spending more time than normal thinking about germs and cleanliness. While some places may seem obvious spots for bacteria, chances are there are a few spots that are less than apparent but grimy none the less. Here are our top five places germs are lurking in your home that you may not think about-

Door knobs

Door knobs are probably one of the most touched items in your home making them the perfect place for germs to lie in wait. From kids to adults, anything that may be lurking on your hands are bound to end up on your door knobs. Wash your hands frequently (if you aren’t already) and make sure your door knobs don’t get overlooked when you clean.

Cutting Boards

From plastic to wood, bacteria can be found on the surface of your cutting boards. Experts recommend investing in several cutting boards to avoid cross contamination and cut down on germs. Fan of wood or bamboo cutting boards? White vinegar is a great natural disinfectant.

Sponges

When you think of something that gets soap but on it with each use, you probably don’t think “dirty” but alas, given their porous nature, sponges can be a breeding ground for the icky stuff. Replace your sponges frequently or switch to microfiber cloths that can easily be tossed in the washer with your daily laundry.

Coffee Maker

Ah, the thing that gets you going most mornings. Your coffee pot is used AT LEAST once a day but can you remember the last time you really cleaned your coffee maker? Confession: we can’t. The inside of your coffee maker in damp, dark and warm making it the perfect spot for bacteria to grow. Not sure how to clean the inner workings of your life force? Water down vinegar, let it sit for half an hour and then run a brew cycle on your machine. Make sure to run with three or more cycles of water or else you run the risk of have a slightly off tasting cup of joe.

Remote Controls

Much like door knobs, remote controls get touched everyday, all day long (hello, working from home). Thankfully, these are hard to keep clean as a simple wipe down with a disinfecting wipe at the end of the day can knock out any germs that may be lingering. While you are at it, go ahead and hit the video game controllers too.
