With all of us spending more time at home, it is literally changing the way we live and the way we view our houses. Maybe you were one of the ones who viewed home as merely a place to rest your head or store sentimental items (we’re looking at you, high school letterman jacket). As we all continue to navigate what a world with COVID looks like, home renovation trends have come to reflect the amount of time we are spending in our homes. Here are five trends that are on our radar for 2020 and beyond-

Open Kitchens

Kitchen have long been a place to gather. From everyday family dinners to hosting 15 for Thanksgiving, we are no stranger to kitchen congregations. Now more than ever, kitchens have become more of a hangout space for your family. It probably comes as no surprise that the era of galley kitchens has ended and we have navigated towards open spaces that we can easily move in. The idea that the kitchen is merely for cooking is out as families explore the kitchen as a place to cook, entertain, and educate.

Smart Features

All the time at home as probably led you down the road of wondering how you can live more efficiently. The old adage “smarter not harder” has expanding from working to living too. From smart appliances to voice controlled lighting, we are all exploring the ways in which we can live more efficiently. We have fridges that practically make our grocery list for us, thermostats that learn our temperature preferences and home hubs like Alexa and Google that can control more aspects of living than we can count.

Minimalism

With all the time that you’ve been spending at home means you are also spending a lot of time with your stuff. If you are anything like us, you’ve been taking a mental inventory of all your things and wondering what you actually need, especially if you are occupying a smaller space. It comes as no surprise that minimalism is on the rise (probably due in part to boredom). More people are purging closets and organizing garages more than ever before.

Nature

The “plant lady” is the new “cat lady as indoor plants have made a giant comeback in 2020. From succulents to Mostera‘s, there is a plant for everyone, even if you are infamous for not being able to keep a plant alive.

Health

Much like smart features for your home, we have become increasingly aware of the ways in which our home can effect our health. From cleaning products to air purifiers, there has been a huge focus this year on eliminating home pollutants that were previously not given any thought. More and more people are switching to all natural cleaning products to eliminate potential toxins, installing home humidifiers and air purifiers to improve air quality in their home and investing in water purification systems.

Are you a plant lady? Have you recently switched to all natural cleaning products or upgraded to smart appliances? We’d love to hear about it!
